Derek Sharp - Director of Coaching

(918) 728-5212 *

"In the youth game, development is the linchpin.  For young players, their time playing and training must be fun or possess fun elements, for a soccer environment without fun makes no sense to young players who are eager to learn and improve.  Most young players already dream of playing at higher levels.  This dream may take the form of moving to a higher level or playing on a high school, college or professional team, so the motivation to learn and progress is already present.  With development oriented training and coaching, young players will learn ball mastery and positional play.  Arranging these elements of the beautiful game into harmony creates a performance environment geared for development."

Coach Sharp was born in Charlotte, NC, but grew up in a small town, at least at that time it was small.  Knoxville, Tennessee had no competitive teams, so he began playing at age 5 in the only available soccer avenue, Knoxville Youth Soccer Organization.  Later, he played high school at Christian Academy of Knoxville where he also began his coaching career under the man who coached him. After high school, Coach Sharp continued to play at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn. After a short absence from the beautiful game to attend graduate school, Coach Sharp moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and began coaching at Tulsa Soccer Club.  In Tulsa, he met his wife, a Bartlesville native, and shortly after their union, two plus two equaled four; they had identical twin boys. Throughout everything, Coach Sharp taught composition and mathematics at TCC, TU and Sequoyah High School.

Martin Clayes - Technical Director

(636)-322-9130 *

As a coach, I have a responsibility to create a fun, positive and demanding environment so that players may develop Technical, Tactical, Physical and Psycho-Social skills.  I believe that the game is the best teacher and that players want to play.  Therefore, I believe in a games-approach to teaching the beautiful game.

I also believe that the coach must accept that they are a role-model for young impressionable children and must use soccer as a tool to promote positive life skills that go beyond the soccer field such as: discipline, teamwork, commitment and sportsmanship.

Born in Perth Scotland, Martin played soccer from a very young age in the local parks before joining his first team aged 7.  Martin was playing semiprofessional soccer in Scotland before accepting a scholarship to play NCAA Division II Soccer at Truman State University in Missouri.  After being named an All American at Truman, Martin continued to play post college with the PDL team the St. Louis Lions during which time he began his coaching career.
